Getting Started with Autism Therapy:

We know that navigating the process of starting therapy can feel overwhelming—but you’re not alone. Our team is here to support you every step of the way. Here’s a simple breakdown of what to expect from diagnosis to therapy:

Step 1: Autism Diagnosis

To begin therapy services, your child must have a formal diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) from a licensed medical professional (such as a developmental pediatrician, neurologist, psychologist, or psychiatrist). If you don’t have a diagnosis yet, we can guide you on where and how to obtain one.

Step 2: Intake Process

Next, you’ll complete our Intake Packet, which includes:

  • Family and child background information

  • Medical history

  • Developmental history

  • Consent forms

  • Emergency contacts

  • Insurance Information

This allows us to get to know your child and family better so we can create a personalized therapy plan that fits your needs. Once we have received all of the necessary documentation we are able to move forward with meeting and evaluating your child.

Step 3: Authorization and Assessment

Next, we will submit for an Authorization to complete an Assessment with your child.

The purpose of the assessment is to review current skills and areas of need (communication, social, adaptive, behavior, etc.)

  • Understand why certain behaviors are occurring

  • Create measurable goals and objectives for therapy

  • Develop a treatment plan tailored to your child’s needs

Step 4: Scheduling and Treatment

Consistency Is Critical

  • ABA works best with regular, consistent sessions—often daily or several times per week.

  • Builds routines and promotes generalization across settings.

  1. Therapy Is Tailored to the Child

    • Scheduling is based on the individual needs, age, goals, family availability, and attention span of the child.

  2. Typically Ranges from 10–40 Hours/Week

    • Younger children or those with more significant needs may receive 25–40 hours per week

    • Older children or those with school schedules may get 10–20 hours per week

    • Hours may increase or decrease over time based on progress and reassessment

ABA Therapy & the American Psychological Association

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy for autism is a scientifically valid and effective treatment approach. It's recognized as an evidence-based intervention by organizations like the American Psychological Association and the U.S. Surgeon General. Numerous studies, including meta-analyses, have shown positive outcomes, particularly when ABA is implemented early and consistently.

Early Intervention

Early intervention using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy is a highly effective approach for young children, particularly those with autism or developmental delays. It focuses on building essential skills, reducing challenging behaviors, and improving overall quality of life.
